Listen, Ladies
Many of the Strip clubs will not allow women in unless they're escorted by a man—
presumably to protect ogling husbands from suspicious wives. If you're looking for a
lady's night out and want to check out the topless action, be sure and call ahead to
find out what each individual club will allow.
Remember the movie Showgirls? Cheetah's 55 (2112 Western Ave.; % 702/
384 - 0074; www.cheetahsnv.com; cover $ 10; 24 hr.) used to be famous for its
cameo role in it (before the lead becomes a showgirl, she's shown working as an
exotic dancer here). In the last year, that's been eclipsed the FBI's Operation G-
Sting, an investigation into extensive political corruption that's even managed to
shock jaded Las Vegas locals. Cheetah's was the place local politicians worked out
backdoor deals and played around with “no touching” ordinances and distance
requirements for dancers in exchange for cash.
It's easy to understand why this was their choice. It's lively and loud, and,
unlike Club Paradise and Sapphire, where the fleshy distractions are the main
attraction, Cheetah's is set up more like a regular bar, with areas where men can
do business and then pause when they feel like a lap dance (before getting back
to business). It's loud, dim, and packed—enough so that your (or a politician's)
anonymity can be maintained.
Known for its especially beautiful strippers and “ultra lounge” vibe, Club
Paradise 5 (4416 Paradise Rd.; % 702/734 - 7990; www.clubparadise.net; cover
$ 20; Mon-Fri 5pm-6am, Sat-Sun 6pm-8am) is one of the few clubs in town where
women aren't required to have a male escort (but they do have to pay the $20
cover). When the dancers here aren't performing, they make their way through
the crowds in elegant gowns that, with quick sleight of hand, seem to just disap-
pear, giving way to the flesh. Breasts are everywhere. While I was standing in the
bar area watching the main stage, a dancer prepared to mount a nearby side stage.
Facing my direction she disrobed without batting an eye and her exposed breasts
were within sneezing distance. When she noticed my look of surprise, she smiled
and, without missing a beat, said “Hi,” continued with the task at hand.
In addition to the shows on the main stage and side stages (and by show I mean
one or two dancers writhing to music), aerialists dangle from the ceiling through-
out the night, and choreographed shows interrupt the stripping monotony.
The classic Vegas strip joint, Olympic Garden (1531 Las Vegas Blvd. S.; % 702/
385 - 9361; www.ogvegas.com; cover $ 20; 24 hr.) is a favorite among purists because
of its no-frills appeal. Laid back and unpretentious, yet not divey or seedy, men sit
around three stages watching topless women dance. One of its downfalls is that if
you're not sitting around the stage, there just aren't too many seating options. The
OG may lack the glitz and marble of some of the newer spots, but the entertain-
ers are still attractive (some are even natural). Upstairs, the Men of OG perform
for ladies on Friday and Saturday nights (p. 230).
