Smoothie Garden Solution
Even in a small garden, leave space between your garden rows so
you can walk and work between them. In large vegetable gardens,
make paths and leave enough space at the end of rows so you can
easily turn a cultivator and wheelbarrows.
Use Mulches
Mulches are used in organic growing to help protect the garden soil
from getting too wet, becoming too dry, and eroding. Straw, hay,
shredded leaves, and grass clippings are all common mulch materi-
als. These items are all organic matter, which will decompose over
time and add to the fertility of your garden soil. If your cover crop
gets too high (more than six inches), cut or mow it before tilling it
under and use the green matter as mulch in another area of your
garden.
