Log Cabin Resort This log-cabin resort on the north shore of Lake
Crescent first opened in 1895 and still has buildings that date from the 1920s.
It is this historic character that makes this such a relaxing place to stay, especially
for families. The least expensive accommodations are rustic one-room log cab-
ins in which you provide the bedding and share a bathroom a short walk away
(basically this is camping without the tent). More comfortable are the 1928 cab-
ins with private bathrooms, some of which also have kitchenettes (you provide
the cooking and eating utensils). The lodge rooms and a chalet offer the great-
est comfort and best views. The lodge dining room overlooks the lake and spe-
cializes in local seafood. The resort also has a general store and RV sites.

Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort The Sol Duc Hot Springs have for decades
been a popular family vacation spot, with campers, day-trippers, and resort
guests spending their days soaking and playing in the hot-water swimming pool.
The grounds of the resort are grassy and open, but the forest is kept just at arm's
reach. The cabins are done in modern motel style and are comfortable if not spa-
cious. There's a good restaurant here, as well as a poolside deli and grocery store.
Three hot spring-fed swimming pools are the focal point, and are open to the
public for a small fee.

CAMPGROUNDS
The six national park campgrounds on the northern edge of the park are some
of the busiest in the park due to their proximity to U.S. 101. Deer Park Camp-
ground (14 campsites) is the easternmost of these campgrounds (take
Deer Park Rd. from U.S. 101 east of Port Angeles) and the only high-elevation
(5,400 ft.) campground in Olympic National Park. Deer Park is reached by
a winding one-lane gravel road. The national park's Heart O' the Hills Camp-
ground (105 campsites), on Hurricane Ridge Road 5 miles south of the Olympic
National Park Visitor Center, is the most convenient campground for explor-
ing the Hurricane Ridge area. On Olympic Hot Springs Road up the Elwha
River, you'll find Elwha Campground (40 campsites) and Altaire Campground
(30 campsites).
West of Port Angeles along Wash. 112, there are three public campgrounds
on the shore of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Salt Creek County Park (90 camp-
sites), 13 miles west of Port Angeles, is among the most scenic spots on this whole
coast. About 20 miles west of Port Angeles is the Washington Department of
Natural Resources' Lyre River Park (16 campsites).
The only campground on Lake Crescent is Fairholm (88 campsites) at the
west end of the lake. The nearby Sol Duc Campground (82 campsites), set amid
impressive stands of old-growth trees, is adjacent to the Sol Duc Hot Springs.
