In-Depth Information
Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles If you're on your way to or from Victoria,
there's no more convenient hotel than the Red Lion. This is Port Angeles's only
waterfront hotel, and is located only steps from the Victoria ferry terminal.
Rooms are large, if without much character, and most have balconies and large
bathrooms. However, you'll pay a premium for a room with a view of the Strait
of Juan de Fuca.

The Tudor Inn Located in a quiet residential neighborhood not far from
the waterfront, this 1910 Tudor home is surrounded by a large yard and pretty
gardens and is our favorite Port Angeles B&B. On the ground floor you'll find
a living room and library, where, in one, there's a gas fireplace and in the other,
a wood-burning fireplace. Either is a great spot for warming yourself if the weather
should turn cold and damp. Upstairs there are five rooms furnished with Euro-
pean antiques, including sleigh beds and four-posters. Several rooms have good
views of the Olympic Mountains, and these are worth requesting.

WEST OF PORT ANGELES
Elwha Ranch Bed & Breakfast Located adjacent to Olympic National
Park, this cedar-log inn, on a 95-acre ranch high above the Elwha River valley,
has a superb view up the valley into the park, and deer and elk are regular visi-
tors. The two suites are in the main house, which has a casual Western ranch feel
and plenty of windows to take in the views. If you're traveling with friends or
family, opt for the two-bedroom suite. However, the nicest and most comfort-
able room here is a modern cabin outside the front door of the main house.
Fresh pies are a specialty of innkeeper Margaret Mitchell. Be sure to get direc-
tions to the inn.
905 Herrick Rd., Port Angeles, WA 98363. & 360/457-6540. www.elwharanch.com. 3 units. Summer
$120-$130 double; other months $90-$110 double. Rates include full breakfast. No credit cards. In room:
TV/VCR, fridge, coffeemaker.
Lake Crescent Lodge This historic lodge is located 20 miles west of
Port Angeles on the south shore of picturesque Lake Crescent and is the lodging
of choice for national park visitors wishing to stay on the north side of the park.
Wood paneling, hardwood floors, a stone fireplace, and a sun room make the
lobby a popular spot for just sitting and relaxing (especially on rainy days). The
guest rooms in this main lodge building are the oldest and have shared bath-
rooms. If you'd like more modern accommodations, there are a number of stan-
dard motel-style rooms, but these lack the character of the lodge rooms. If you
have your family or some friends along, we recommend reserving a cottage. The
Roosevelt cabins, which have fireplaces, are the most comfortable, but a couple
of Singer cabins (nos. 20 and 21) have great views. All but the main lodge rooms
have views of either the lake or the mountains, and the dining room has a good
view across the lake. Early November through mid-April, the lodge is only open
on weekends, and only the Roosevelt cabins are available. The dining room is
not open in winter.
