Eating in Lagos
You'll find a variety of lively choices for dinner branching out in all directions from Praça
Gil Eanes. Most of them offer a similar sampling of grilled fish with plenty of vegetables,
but other options range from Italian to Indian. Home-style cooking is better closer to the
market.
O Pescador, popular with locals and tourists alike, serves good grilled fish and meat
in a simple, bright, paper-napkin atmosphere. Their mouthwatering prawns with rice
(camarãos com arroz) comes in a big steaming pot, perfect for two with a jug of the
house vinho verde (daily 12:00-22:00, until 23:00 in summer, Rua Gil Eanes 6-10, tel.
282-767-028). Hardworking João speaks little English but is eager to please. Take note
that the “scallops” on the menu are pork, not shellfish.
Meu Limão (“My Lemon”) is a handy, citrus-fresh little tapas-and-wine bar right by
the Church of São Antonio (€3-4 tapas, €6.50 salads, €5-10 daily specials, Portuguese
wines by the glass; Thu-Tue 11:30-23:00, closed Wed; tel. 282-767-946).
