truly interdisciplinary design program that cultivates deep thinkers, there must be a
precise process that enhances creativity.
Taking into account social motives from nature, culture, and future perspectives,
this chapter identified the growth of a sense of design as the importance of design
creativity in an advanced society. “The meaning of the growth of a sense of design”
has generated a new social image of the future that resonates with deep human
emotion among profound design thinkers. Creativity in advanced design is charac-
terized by a purely self-organizing system that is internally defined and interactively
influenced from the outside (from the Post-Design phase); it generates images that
resonate with the core senses of design—nature, culture, and the future—embedded
in society (see Fig. 4.3 ). A rare example of this cycle is found in designing fine art
through the exploration of abstract painting because “abstract” and “realistic”
representations are often in sharp conflict with one another. Outstanding artists
challenged traditional painting concepts by exploring the sense of culture and, as a
result, mediated a social motive of “autonomy” in abstract art as a self-organizing
system. However, in design, we found that the sense of caring for life, which
resonates with people's deep emotions, has triggered environmental social motives,
which have led to the new challenge of designing sustainable products, services, and
systems. This will be the next critical issue for deep design thinkers as they become
future-oriented creators who go beyond the selfish requirements of users to upgrade
the value of products, services, and systems. Therefore, commitment and ethics will
become mandatory virtues of design creators.
To contribute to the above issue, academics must act from a place of heartfelt
concern for the actual world. This means that academics should work toward
fostering sustainable design and the next generation of serious thinkers, while
encouraging a commitment to a future advanced community that drives creative
