For those making the trip via Tokyo's Narita Airport, note that Tokyo Station is 66km
from Narita Airport. The N'EX special express train is the fastest way to travel from Nar-
ita to Tokyo Station (¥2940, one hour); the 'Airport Narita' trains are cheaper and fairly
fast (¥1280, 1½ hours).
The JR
shinkansen
is the fastest and most frequent rail link between Tokyo and Kyoto
(one way, ¥13,220, two hours and 40 minutes). Take a
hikari
or
nozomi shinkansen
(these
are the two fastest types of
shinkansen
).
Avoid the slow
kodama shinkansen,
which stop frequently.
Shinkansen
run between Tokyo and Kyoto roughly between 6am and 9pm.
