The new Marigold is as practical as it is stylish. Rooms are smart but not try-hard,
with golds, neutrals and fresh flowers, while the lobby has vanishing-edge fountains, art-
ful chandeliers and podlike reservation counters. The rooftop pool was also a good idea.
Rates listed are rack; they're often significantly lower.

Don't bother going beyond the standard rooms here, which are comfy and classy, with
sleek desks, bamboo flooring and flower petals in the bathroom. Good taste reigns (as
does sensibleness, eg free wi-fi). The lobby, meanwhile, is a paragon of peace and gentle
lighting, while smiley staff look on.

The
gargantuan black chandelier, mirrored elevators and jazz soundtrack in the Mercure's
lobby give off a slight Manhattan vibe, while overlooking a busy (but very convenient)
part of Abids. Rooms have stylish textiles and big glass showers. The hotel is veg and
alcohol-free.

Eating
In the early evenings, look out for
mirchi bhajji
(chilli fritters), served at street stalls with
tea. The Hyderabadi style is famous: chillis are stripped of their seeds, stuffed with tamar-
ind, sesame and spices, dipped in chickpea batter and fried.
Per local usage, we use the term 'meal' instead of 'thali'. A 14% VAT applies to res-
taurant bills.
