;
Abids Rd; s/d with air-con from ?1349/1855; )
This 1924
heritage building has a magnificent exterior, plants peppered about and some rooms with
character (ie boudoirs, crystal-knobbed armoires and wood-beam ceilings). The hotel re-
cently annexed a modern building next door and renovated, reducing the old-timey feel.
It's still the city's best value, with daily room cleaning, super-helpful reception, good wi-
fi/broadband (?100 per day) and a fabulous veg restaurant.
Hotel Imperial Classic
( 66137698/99;

; RTC Cross Rd, Chikkadpally; s/d from ?1012/1124; )
In a com-
mercial area removed from the usual tourist hoods, this simple place is keeping it real:
friendly staff, reasonable prices, soundproofed windows and plain rooms that go more
clean than character.

This little hotel on a quiet residential street in ritzy Banjara Hills
scores big on location. Rooms are modest, but clean and homey, and some have balconies.
The downside: the welcome's not the warmest.
Hotel Harsha

Public Gardens Rd; s/d incl breakfast from ?1798/2023; )
Rooms
don't have tons of character and can be noisy (ask for a rear-facing room) but they're
bright, have fridges, the furniture is tasteful and the art is a step up from the usual schlock.
The overall effect is polished but comfy, and the staff are all smiles. One of the city's best
deals. Wi-fi's ?100 per hour.

Taj Falaknuma Palace
( 66298585;

; Engine Bowli, Falaknuma; s/d from ?25,852/27,538; )
The Taj
Group took more than a decade to restore the former residence of the sixth nizam,
painstakingly mending such nizam-esque indulgences as embossed-leather wallpaper and
24-karat-gold ceiling trim. Standard rooms are stunning, but the suites give the full 19th-
century experience. Even if you don't stay here, come for high tea (?1500) in the Jade
Room.
