(2720 Harsha Rd, Parklane Hotel; mains ?100-140) Mysore's most social restaurant with buzzing
picnic-style garden tables, lit up moodily by countless lanterns. The food here is stock
standard, with the usual Indian dishes, but live traditional music, and a fully stocked bar,
make for a great night out.

Shopping
Mysore is a great place to shop for its famed sandalwood products, silk saris and wooden
toys. It is also one of India's major incense-manufacturing centres. Look for the butterfly-
esque 'Silk Mark' on your purchase; it's an endorsement for quality silk.
CLOTHING
Government Silk Factory
(Mananthody Rd, Ashokapuram; 10am-6.30pm Mon-Sat, outlet 10.30am-7.30pm Mon-Sat) Given that
Mysore's prized silk is made under its very sheds, this is the best and cheapest place to
shop for the exclusive textile. Behind the showroom is the factory, where you can drop by
to see how the fabric is made.
Sandalwood Oil Factory
(Mananthody Rd, Ashokapuram; 9.30-1pm & 2-5pm Mon-Sat) A quality-assured place for sandal-
wood products such as incense, soap, cosmetics and the prohibitively expensive pure san-
dalwood oil. Guided tours are available to show you around the factory and explain how
the products are made.

(Sayyaji Rao Rd; 10am-7.30pm) Not the cheapest place, but the selection is extensive, and
there's no pressure to buy.
