the rooms are not quite as bright - ask to see a few as there's old and new wings with
rooms of varying quality. Friendly family owners, a potentially nice back garden and noon

) A long-standing Panaji favourite for its heritage character, this beautiful 19th cen-
tury hotel has a variety of charismatic original rooms, along with some newer rooms with
more modern touches, but all with four-poster beds, colonial furniture and local artworks.
Across the road and run by the same family is the Panjim Peoples , with four enormous rooms
upstairs and the Gitanjali Gallery downstairs, also across the road is the tranquil nine-
room Panjim Pousada , in an old Hindu home.

) Perched on a hill above the Sao Tomé district, with fine views out over the Man-
dovi, this spa-hotel-casino is a great option for a little bit of luxury in the heart of the city.
Refurbished rooms are airy and tastefully done in mustards and whites (some with bal-
conies) and the pool-bar area is incredibly enticing (nonguests ?250). There's also a day
spa and gym.

geous old Portuguese-style home (c 1831), Casa Nova consists of just one stylish, excep-
tionally comfy apartment, accessed via a little alley and complete with arched windows,
