SHÍDÙ
Known as the 'Guìlín of the North' and best visited during the summer rainy season, Shídù is a scenic valley
containing pinnacle-shaped rock formations, pleasant rivers and general beauty, making it a great place to hike.
Shídù means '10 crossings': before the new road and bridges were built, visitors had to cross the Jùmǎ River 10
times while travelling from Zhāngfāng to Shídù.
As well as trekking options, there's a bundle of activities, from climbing and boating to bungee jumping
(¥150 to ¥180). Some areas require tickets (¥40 to ¥90).
At Zhāngfāng Village, you can visit the
Zhāngfāng Ancient Battle Tunnel
( Zhāngfāng Gǔ Zhàndào; admis-
sion ¥20) , a 1000-year-old underground military facility that was discovered by chance in 1991. Bus 917 stops
here before it reaches Shídù.
To visit Shídù, take bus 917 (¥22, three hours, 6am to 5pm) from Tiānqiáo bus stand (

is the last stop.
