family fun zone is the Sharjah Fountain OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP (

midnight Mon-Sat) which, after dark, choreographs music, light, laser and spurting wa-
ter columns into impressive five-minute shows. Aside from a clutch of cafes and fast-food
outlets, diversions include the 18-hole Al Majaz Minigolf OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP (adult/
child Dh25/15; 4pm-midnight) course and a jogging track made from recycled tyres. Romantic
types can charter an abra (adult/child Dh15/10, private boat Dh80-100;
4pm-midnight Apr-Oct, 2.45pm-
midnight Nov-Mar) for watery views of the city panorama.
Sharjah Archaeological Museum MUSEUM

egant museum which does a fine job of displaying and interpreting locally unearthed arte-
facts from the Stone Age to AD 600. Walk among re-created tombs and houses and ad-
mire ancient tools, 3500-year-old bronze spearheads, dainty shell necklaces, well-pre-
served Iron Age pottery and Roman gold coins. A taxi here from the city centre should
cost about Dh10.

time creatures from the UAE's west and east coast without getting your feet wet. Moray
eels lurk, black-tip reef sharks prowl, eagle rays flop and jellyfish dance around tanks that
re-create Dibba Rock, mangroves, Shark Island's coral reefs and other local watery habit-
ats. We like the touchscreens, but a few more labels wouldn't hurt.
