Start in downtown, Lima's historic, colonial heart. At the
Plaza de Armas
, you can tour
La Catedral de Lima
. From here, numerous colonial churches radiate outwards. Among
the best: the
Iglesia de Santo Domingo
, with its saints' reliquaries, and the
Monasterio
de San Francisco
, which contains creepy catacombs. At the
Plaza San Martín
, pop into
El Bolivarcito
- a streetside watering hole that helped make the pisco sour famous.
On the second day see spectacular pre-Columbian artifacts at the
Museo Larco
, which
is now open late into the evenings. Afterward, shop 'til you drop in the seaside neighbor-
hood of
Miraflores
. Once you've built up an appetite, hit one of the area's internationally
acclaimed eateries.

Begin your visit by wandering around the city's handsome
Plaza de Armas
, where the key
historic structures are crafted from
sillar,
a luminous white volcanic stone. From the plaza,
you'll see the massive
Catedral
and the extravagant
Iglesia de la Compañía
, known for
its Spanish-baroque altar smothered in gold leaf. Just off a side street is the
Museo Santu-
arios Andinos
, which houses 'Juanita, the ice princess,' a frozen Inca maiden sacrificed
on the summit of a nearby peak many centuries ago.
