Peruvian boutique chain Casa Andina swooped in and gobbled up this aging relic,
formerly the Gran Hotel Chiclayo. A 100% makeover was underway during our visit (ex-
pected completion 2014). Presume superswankiness (for Chiclayo), including room ser-
vice, spa, cappuccino bar, casino, fitness center, parking and a plaza sports bar.
Eating
Chiclayo is a top dining destination on the north coast.
Arroz con pato a la chiclayana
(duck and rice cooked in cilantro and beer) and
tortilla de manta raya
(Spanish omelet
made from stingray) are favorites.

Few things are as
satisfying as scraping those last bits of slightly charred rice off the bottom of an iron-clad
pan and savoring all that's great about a rice dish like
arroz con pato a la chiclayana
. But
there's more: Fiesta also makes delectable tableside cocktails and a blindingly good
ceviche a la brasa
- the traditional dish served warm after a last-minute searing. The ser-
vice is exquisite and the menu offers the best of this region's world-famous cuisine.
Reserve ahead (especially on weekends).
A taxi here costs S5 from the center.

A local haunt that has outstanding seafood and re-
gional dishes. The ceviches here are every bit as good as the expensive joints - and week-
end specials like
cabrito con frijoles
(goat with beans; Saturday) and
arroz con pato
(duck
with rice; Sunday) are steals.
