In-Depth Information
1) Is the topic ever-green? In other words, are there endless things to talk about re-
garding this topic?
Obviously you want a topic that isn't limited in scope!
2) Is there money to be made in this topic? In other words, are there products or ser-
vices related to this topic that you can promote or sell on your website?
Topics that have a lot of related products are great because you can review and promote
them on your website as an affiliate. This is also true about high priced services topics like
law, insurance, etc. (lead generation websites make a lot of money!).
There are also examples of websites about topics WITHOUT related products or services
that have led to unexpected opportunities for their creators simply due to the high amount
of traffic their blogs have generated (I will go over those a little bit later). No matter what,
once your website is getting lots of traffic, there is money to be made - no doubt about it.
3) Are there other blogs making money in this topic already?
Do a little bit of research and find out if there are already other blogs making money in
the topic(s) you are considering. If there are, that is GOOD news! That means your topic
is a definite winner, and you can even study the other websites to see how they are mak-
ing money. Trust me when I say there is enough money being made on the Internet for
EVERYONE, so no concerns about the competition. The overall amount of time being
spent on the Internet is only growing every year.
4) Will your topic be relevant 10 years from now?
Think long-term. You want your website to make you growing income for the rest of your
life, so I would recommend going for a broad and timeless topic, and not a specific fad (i.e.
make a blog about fashion instead of a blog about bell-bottom jeans!).
These are great things to consider, but the most important thing is to simply get your blog
up and start writing - doing that will teach you subtleties about blogging than that nothing
else can (that is why I am always pushing people to just START!). Experience is always
the best teacher.
