We fell for this convivial little place, firstly for the cosy interior, bisected by the arches
of an ancient wall and packed with merry people; secondly for its charming staff; and fi-
nally for the big, well-presented plates of tasty food. It has become a firm town favourite
- book ahead for weekend nights.

Caernar-
fon's glitziest bar looks on to Castle Sq from behind a grand Georgian facade. Inside it's
all black furniture and pink trim - which isn't anywhere near as much of a 1980s night-
mare as it sounds. Drop in for soup or a sandwich at lunchtime (£4 to £8) or a more sub-
stantial evening meal.

If you're after a pint, this conver-
ted 18th-century waterfront customs house is your best bet. In summer, grab a seat out-
side; it's a great spot for watching the sunset.
