QUENTIN GRIMLEY, WALES COAST PATH
Fancy a stroll? We asked Quentin Grimley, Coastal Access Project Officer for the Countryside Council of Wales,
to tell us about the Wales Coast Path ( www.walescoastpath.gov.uk ), the first walking track to encompass a coun-
try's entire coastline.
Tell us about the path. The project started in 2007 with the intention to create a continuous coastal path around
all of Wales. It opened in 2012, linking up existing coastal paths like Pembrokeshire, which has been around since
1970, and others such as Ceredigion and Anglesea. If you then walk the Offa's Dyke Path you can circle the
whole of Wales.
How long does it take to walk the whole thing? It's 870 miles long. Walking every day for an average of 13
miles, it would take two months to complete - plus an additional two weeks if you finish with Offa's Dyke Path.
Are there any sections that you'd recommend for travellers with only a day or two to spare? Well, places
like Pembrokeshire are already well known, so for somewhere a little less obvious, try the Gower Peninsula by
Swansea. It's an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's easy to get to and it's never had a continuous coastal
path before now.
