housed in a 16th-century coaching inn, are from South Africa, so they understand the
Welsh passion for rugby. It gets packed to the rafters during games. Sunday night is quiz
night, and they play host to the annual Chepstow Beer, Cider & Perry Festival (July) and
the Chepstow Beer & Sausage Festival (October).

cast of Glee (albeit a considerably older, exclusively male, much more Welsh version) re-
hearses every Monday and Thursday from 7pm to 9pm at a local primary school. All fans
of booming Welsh manhood are welcome.

Chepstow Racecourse

north of the town centre, Chepstow Racecourse is one of Britain's most famous horse-ra-
cing venues. It's home to Wales' most prestigious race meeting, the Welsh National - a
roughly 3-mile steeplechase held between Christmas and New Year, which has been run
here since 1949.

Chepstow sits on the west bank of the River Wye, at the north end of the old Severn Road
Bridge. The train station is 250m southeast of the compact town centre (follow Station
Rd); the bus station is 250m west. There are convenient car parks off Welsh St and next to
the castle.
