Getting There & Around
BIKE
Lôn Las Cymru, the Welsh National Cycle Route (Sustrans route 8), starts at Chepstow,
heading north to Abergavenny.
BUS
Bus route 69 links Chepstow with Monmouth (40 minutes) via Tintern (15 minutes),
while route 74 heads to Newport (55 minutes).
National Express ( www.nationalexpress.com ) destinations include London (£22, three hours),
Cardiff (£5.50, one hour), Swansea (£12, two hours), Carmarthen (£20.80, 2¼ hours),
Tenby (£19.10, three hours) and Pembroke (£19.10, 3¼ hours).
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
Short-term pay-and-display parking is available in large lots by the castle, off Welsh St,
off Lower Church St and off Upper Church St. All except the latest offer long-stay rates.
TRAIN
There are direct Arriva Trains Wales ( www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk ) services to Chepstow from
Cardiff (£9, 40 minutes) via Newport (£6.80, 23 minutes), and from Gloucester (£9.10, 30
minutes).

Chepstow to Monmouth
The A466 road follows the snaking, steep-sided valley of the River Wye from Monmouth
all the way to Chepstow, passing through the straggling village of Tintern with its famous
abbey. This is a beautiful drive, rendered particularly mysterious when a twilight mist
rises from the river and shrouds the illuminated ruins.
