BEACHES
The beaches north and south of Pangani are lovely, dotted with stands of palms and
baobabs, and they are almost deserted, compared with those on Zanzibar, just across the
channel.
HIKING
Lushoto and surrounding villages, with their village-to-village walks and hill panoramas,
and Amani, with its many unique plants, are highlights of hiking in northeastern Tanzania's
Eastern Arc mountains.
HISTORY
Bagamoyo makes a fascinating stop, with its museum and many historical buildings. Pan-
gani's sleepy streets are also full of history, and nearby are the 14th-century Tongoni ruins.
