In-Depth Information
Arusha Centre Inn HOTEL $
( 027-250 0421; Livingstone Rd; s/d US$25/30; ) Unremarkable but clean and fairly
spacious rooms. The three storeys ring a courtyard and there's a wannabe posh restaurant
at the front with good food. This hotel is stingier with the generator than most hotels during
power cuts and we wouldn't pay full price to stay here, but discounts are easy to get.
Kitundu Guesthouse GUESTHOUSE $
( 027-250 9065; Levolosi Rd; r Tsh25,000, without bathroom Tsh12,000) A decent, re-
liable choice. Though it's pricier than some similar and even better guesthouses (such as
Raha Leo) around here, the others don't offer Mt Meru views. You might be able to get a
discount if you're travelling alone.
McElly's Hotel HOTEL $$
( 0759-547123; www.mc-ellyshotel.com ; Wasukuma St; s/d/tr US$50/55/70; )
A well-equipped local business travellers hotel in a convenient though rather scruffy area
west of the market. Attractive wooden furniture in the rooms sets it apart from others in its
class on this side of town.
Arusha By Night Annex HOTEL $
( 0713-485237; Stadium Rd; s/d & tw Tsh15,000/16,000) If you don't mind the ageing
institutional feel, the strictly functional rooms (all with hot showers) are fair value for
couples.
Arusha Backpackers BACKPACKERS $
( 0773-377795; www.arushabackpackers.co.tz ; Sokoine Rd; dm/s/d without bathroom
US$10/ 12/20; ) Popular despite the cell-like shared-bath (and mosquito net-less) rooms,
many of which lack windows, that cost more than quieter properly sized self-contained
rooms elsewhere. And the rooftop restaurant has lost its Mt Meru view.
CLOCK TOWER & EASTERN ARUSHA
Most of the following are in the green, leafy and overall quieter eastern part of town, while
a few are in the thick of the action around the Clock Tower.
Outpost Lodge LODGE $$
( 0715-430358; www.outposttanzania.com ; Serengeti Rd; s/d & tw/tr US$52/70/84;
) The rooms are nothing special, albeit with attractive stone floors, but the lush
