This former government hotel is set on the best stretch of beach - a large expanse of clean
white sand, with no jetties to mar the view - with a long row of attractive beach-facing
rooms and expansive green grounds. All the rooms have floor to ceiling windows with bal-
conies. There's a restaurant, and a generally quieter ambience than that found at the hotels
along Jangwani Beach to the south. It also has a business centre and a gym.
White Sands Hotel HOTEL $$$
( 022-264 7620/1; www.hotelwhitesands.com ; s/d US$150/175, deluxe apt from
US$160; ) This large (with 88 rooms, 28 self-catering apartments and conference
facilities), somewhat hectic and popular place is on the beach between Jangwani Sea
Breeze Lodge and Beachcomber. The pleasant rooms are in two-storey rondavels lined up
along the waterfront, all with TV, minifridge and sea views. At the northern end of the com-
plex are newer self-catering apartments - some directly overlooking the beach, and the oth-
ers just behind overlooking a well-tended lawn. There's also a gym and a business centre,
and the restaurant has weekend buffets (per person about Tsh25,000). Waterskiing, laser
sailing and wind surfing can be arranged. Room prices include free entry to Water World,
next door. There's a nightclub on most Friday and Saturday nights.

( 022-265 0428, 0713-297031; camping Tsh5000, r Tsh50,000; ) This dilapidated
place is set on a quiet stretch of beach and has seen better days, but remains a respectable
low-budget choice. The camping facilities have hot water (usually), and there are basic but
adequate rooms set around a grassy square just in from the beach, all with one double and
one twin bed. Inexpensive meals - mostly fish or chicken and rice - are available.

( 022-264 7215, 0786-800960; www.jangwaniseabreezeresort.com ; s/d US$70/100;
) This tidy establishment is now part of the Eclipse Hotels group. The 34 rooms are
comfortable and some are spacious, although most are on the inland side of the road and
without beach views. Just opposite is a bougainvillea-draped beachside courtyard, and a
restaurant with weekend barbecues and buffets.
Beachcomber HOTEL $$
( 022-264 7772/3; www.beachcomber.co.tz ; s/d from US$104/122; ) Rooms
here are adequate, albeit overpriced. All have small balconies, though most don't have full
beach-facing views. There's also a gym. Despite the waterside location, the beach in front
