In-Depth Information
Beginning of the dry season and a great time to visit before high season proper; a
couple of very interesting festivals showcase both cinema and traditional culture.
WILD CINEMA FESTIVAL
This film festival is just a few years old but proving popular. It showcases the work of loc-
al and South African talent at cinemas throughout Windhoek.
TJILENJE (NGWAO BOSWA) CULTURAL
FESTIVAL
Celebrations during this festival are rural, taking place in Nlapkhwane (northeastern Bot-
swana) and include traditional Tswana dancing, games and yummy homemade cooking.
July
High season is beginning to crank up. Expect warm, clear days and ideal conditions
(apart from coastal Namibia where sandstorms can be a problem).
PRESIDENT'S DAY
Folk flock home to their villages to celebrate this holiday on the third weekend of July. It
features the usual festival antics - dancing, singing and speeches.
August
Wildlife watching is at its best as water sources become limited in the parks; and
August has some festivals dedicated to both bushman culture and important historic-
al events.
