In-Depth Information
Key work packages need careful assessment of “lead-in times” prior to commenc-
ing work on site. The lead-in time is the time period between the completion of the
procurement process and the commencement of work on site.
The site construction programme and the procurement programme are illustrated
for two steelwork operations. Links are shown between the master programme and
the procurement programme. Displaying the procurement programme above the
master programme is a useful presentation technique adopted by a number of main
contractors.
3.4 Procurement programme principles
Before starting the steelwork erection on site there are three stages in the procure-
ment cycle:
obtaining a competitive quotation for undertaking the work
allowing for the steelwork design period
allowing time for manufacture of the steelwork prior to delivery to site
A two-week lead-in time is shown on the display for steelwork operations on the
office block, and three weeks on the main portal frame.
Milestone symbols may be integrated into the display to indicate:
Placing the order
O
Design approval
DA
Commencement of
erection on site
C
A range of procurement milestone stages are illustrated, together with various
hatching formats which may be introduced on bar line displays.
