In-Depth Information
Safety Deck is a passive system that can be used to prevent a fall. The system is
cost effective and is used by major contractors (ref. website safetydeck@tarmac.
co.uk ). The system allows full freedom of movement during the installation of roof
trusses, timber and pre-cast flooring systems and flat roofs. The Safety Deck website
indicates the full benefits of the system.
Programme for the roof construction
An extract from the contract programme is shown for the roof construction and cov-
erings. The overall period is shown as 13 weeks including the solar panel installation.
Progress has been recorded to the end of week 28. The programming is based on
linked bar-charts using Asta Developments Power Project Software.
Acceleration of roofing programme
Due to extensive inclement weather in December the contract is currently some 8
weeks behind programme. The project manager has considered that the roof pro-
grammes may be accelerated in order to recover part of the delay. Operation 3 (erect
roof trusses and roof carcase) and Operation 6 (roof coverings) may be accelerated.
A detailed short term programme for roof trusses and roof coverings is illustrated,
showing a reduction of 5 days. Further reductions may be considered by increasing
the number of subcontractor gangs fixing the roof coverings.
