Sheraton Mendoza
Definitely the new kid on the block—albeit one with a famous
name—this high-rise hotel, which opened in 2008, is the tallest building in the entir e
city. Inside, it's a straight-up five-star convention center and hotel, with nary a nod to the
fabulous surroundings, local flair for design, or the wine/food vibe so important to Men-
doza. Still, rooms are incredibly comfortable, as to be expected from a Sheraton. And the
rooftop lounge has unbeatable views of the city, not to mention a great wine list. There's
also a casino attached. Be sure to request a mountain view, even if they won't confirm it
(and it's worth double-checking at check-in). Business travelers and bigger groups will be
most inter ested in this option. F

This sleek new building of steel and brick offers plenty of
great value. (“Depto” is short for
departamento,
which is Spanish for “apartment.”) Rent
a funky studio and slip into a hip and urban way of life; it seems that easy her e. On the
top floor of this downtown building is the reception desk, which also acts as a lively gal-
lery. The apartments are decorated with local art, with a focus on function and lighting.
Ceramic tiles, aluminum, concr ete, and wood dominate the look. B athrooms are quite
small, with stand-up showers only. Apartment no. 9 is the largest, with a big, sunny ter-
race, but the street below is quite noisy at night. If you're coming with a group of friends
and you love design, this is a gr eat choice. Parking is available nearby for an extra fee of
$8 (£5.40) per day.
