The G olden Tulip S avoy Ever since D utch C rown P rince William married the
beautiful Argentine commoner Maxima in 2002, Netherlands natives have been flocking
to Argentina in droves. The Dutch-owned Golden Tulip, opened in the faded but historic
hotel Savoy, is an attempt b y Dutch investors to catch that traffic, and the majority of
the hotel's clients are from Europe. The original hotel opened in 1910, with largely Ar t
Nouveau elements. I t was just one small par t of the glamor ous rebuilding of A venida
Callao in the aftermath of the opening of the nearb y Congreso. The hotel became par t
of the G olden Tulip chain in 2000. The company has r enovated the hotel completely ,
maintaining original detail such as gorgeous moldings and stained-glass decoration,
though the lobby was already irrevocably altered in the 1960s. The rooms are very large,
and each is enter ed thr ough its o wn antechamber. R ooms facing the str eet hav e tiny
French balconies, but half of the hotel faces an interior cour tyard with no vie ws. All
rooms are soundproof and hav e Wi-Fi. Suite bathrooms include a whirlpool bathtub .
The hotel's Madrigales restaurant offers Argentine cuisine with inter esting Latin Ameri-
can fusion elements. There is no pool, sauna, or gym here, but the hotel has an agreement
with a nearby establishment.

Hotel de L os Dos C ongresos Value This hotel is housed in a historically listed
building just across from Congreso. Some units come in odd shapes and arrangements,
so ask to see a r oom before taking it. A fe w rooms are split-levels, with the bed in lofts;
others hav e v ery large bathr ooms, others small. S ome bathr ooms hav e only sho wers,
while others have tub/shower combinations. Suites come with J acuzzi tubs. Hair dryers
are available at the front desk. Rooms facing Congreso have fantastic views, but it can be
noisy, especially given the constant pr otests in front of Congreso. There is no price dif-
ferential for rooms with or without views. Staff members are exceptionally helpful. Most
patrons hail from Europe and South America as par t of tour gr oups, and the hotel also
heavily advertises itself as gay-friendly. The hotel no longer accepts pets.

Hotel Ibis Kids Value Well located on P laza Congr eso, all r ooms her e hav e
street views, and many face the plaza directly. Rooms are a good size for this price range,
and all are identical, with a peach-and-mint color pattern. They are all doubles, but an
