Coffee Lounge The Coffee Lounge is an all-night coffee bar located in Portland,
Oregon. The Coffee Lounge features live music on the weekends, an improvisational
comedy open mike on Thursday nights, poetry slams on Wednesday nights, experimental
fi lm screenings on Tuesday nights, and a book club devoted to local authors on Monday
nights. In addition, the Coffee Lounge encourages public art by allowing patrons and
local artists to use the various pens, markers, and paints scattered throughout the club to
add their mark to the walls and tables.
Coffee Lounge owner, Tommy Caddell, believes the lounge could benefi t from a Web
site. He wants to use the site as a marketing tool to promote featured events, the monthly
special, a different coffee blend featured each month, and sales. Tommy also wants to
include a page that features a different local nonprofi t organization each month. You will
assist Tommy in building the site. Tommy asks you to research the Web sites of other cof-
fee lounges and to fi nd information about basic HTML.
1. Start your Web browser. Type the URL for a search engine into the Address bar, and
then press the Enter key to open the search engine. (Two popular search engines are
google.com and dogpile.com .)
2. Use a search engine to fi nd the Web sites for coffee lounges. Search for coffee
lounge Web sites by typing the appropriate keywords in the search box, and then
clicking the Search button. The search engine displays a list of pages that contains
the words in your search.
3. Explore at least three coffee lounge sites. For each site, write down the site's URL
and any useful information about the site's content, organization, and design. ( Hint :
Use the Back button on the browser toolbar to return to the search results and link to
a different Web site.)
4. Use a search engine to fi nd the Web sites of at least three local competing coffee
lounges, such as Stumptown Coffee Roasters, The Funky Door Cafe, Space Monkey
Coffee, and Bipartisan Café.
5. Write a brief memo to Tommy, describing the sites' similarities and differences and
listing content and design features you would like to incorporate into the new Coffee
Lounge Web site. Include the URL for each site.
6. Start Dreamweaver, and then reset the workspace to the Designer confi guration.
7. Search Dreamweaver Help to fi nd topics about Property inspector and then read
any topics about editing code.
8. Search Dreamweaver Help to fi nd topics about formatting text and then read topics
about text formatting using CSS and HTML.
9. Add a paragraph or two to your memo that describes what you learned about editing
code and formatting text with CSS and HTML.
Exit Dreamweaver. Submit the fi nished memo to your instructor.
