It couldn't be more centrally located, but that comes at a price - pack
earplugs if you're not a heavy sleeper. Otherwise this hostel is a perfectly fine although
reasonably basic place to lay your head.

near Trg Bokeljske Mornarice; r €75-90, apt €115-150; )
It's
not going to win any hip design awards but this old stone place offers a cheerful welcome
and clean, brightly tiled rooms in a supremely central location. There's a restaurant
downstairs, so expect some noise.

Well located without being in
the midst of the melee, this friendly establishment has a clutch of reasonably priced
apartments of varying sizes, some of which have magical views across the Škurda River
to the Old Town from their terraces.

Trg od Brašna; s €120-150, d €150-180; )
Straddling
an awkward line between fantastic and fantastical, the Astoria seems to have been de-
signed by someone with a bulging budget and a
Lord of the Rings
fixation. Corridors are
made to look like caves and a teenager's warrior-princess fantasy gazes down on recep-
tion, but the rooms are luxuriously furnished and very comfortable. The spacious junior
suites have bay views.
