'We use the Vrmac ridge as part of our Coastal Challenge but you don't need to be particularly fit to hike it. The
route starts at Trojica, the old Austrian fort above Kotor, and heads to Gornja Lastva, an old village where the
residents have made a pact not to sell to developers. You can mountain bike along the top as well on what's quite
a wide trail.'

Although the Stari Grad is a charming place to stay, you'd better pack earplugs. In sum-
mer the bars blast music onto the streets until 1am every night, rubbish collectors clank
around at 6am and the chattering starts at the cafes by 8am. Enquire about private accom-
modation at the tourist information booth.
