and that Suzy may tweet him questions for her! Aha! After a scratch of her
head, she types frantically “Can you ask Tyra when Michelle Obama will
be on her show and which designer will be dressing her?” With a click the
message is gone to Larry King as well as her 2,780 followers! While still on
Twitter she spots a new entry by Karl Lagerfeld who she's also following
“I'm open to everything. When you start to criticize the times you live in,
your time is over.” “Typically Karl Lagerfeld”, she muses.
Next email is from Fendi, inviting her to visit their website to view
the latest collection and to watch a video of the launch party of the re-
interpreted Baguette handbag and also participate in the Design Your
Dream Baguette competition. She is curious to see what the bag looks like
but also to know what others think about it as well as personal design initia-
tive (see Figure 2.1). She decides to skip the Fendi website but instead logs
on to PurseBlog.com where she quickly finds a blog post about the handbag.
From the post, which details the bag's style, versatility, materials, colors and
the inspiration for its creation, Suzy sees that the blogger seems to like it and
she couldn't agree more - the bag looks gorgeous but what draws her even
more to it is the approval of the blogger whose independent judgment Suzy
trusts. She notices that there have been about 70 comments about the bag and
she quickly scans through them. Some of the comments mention the aesthet-
ics of the bag and others are applauding its “ Made in Italy ” tag while yet
others are asking for information about the price. She spots a response to the
price question. The bag costs $1,290 and is already released in Fendi stores
across the country. Suzy's appetite for the bag increases and her brain goes
into twists and turns on how she could obtain it. Maybe she could find the
bag at a cheaper price online and save a few precious dollars. She logs on to
Gilt.com in the hope that by some miracle it would be on the list of sample
sale items but a quick search reveals that it isn't yet in stock. Then she types
Net-A-Porter.com into her browser and she finds it on display and even in
three different colors. She checks the price and it's the same as on PurseBlog
but Net-A-Porter has price quotes in several currencies so she quickly checks
the price in euros and pounds and does some quick calculations and finds
to her delight that she can purchase it for up to $50 less if she pays in euros.
How sweet! She can put that $50 savings towards renting the Bvlgari neck-
lace she has been dying to have from Avelle.com later in the week for
a cocktail party. Or maybe she should borrow the Fendi bag directly from
Avelle.com instead of buying it or better still wait for her next trip to Paris
and borrow it from SacDeLuxe.com for her entire stay in the city? And if
she was satisfied after using it, then she could think of purchasing it. Yes,
that seems like a better idea. She puts her name on the borrowing waiting list
on both websites - she'll make the choice later.
Next email is from one of her social network members on aSmallWorld.
net. She's just informing Suzy that she has an exclusive VIP invita-
tion to shop the entire Valentino collection at sample prices on Gilt.com
