Creation Options
As you can tell, using the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) requires more time to configure a database
than it took with the
oakcli
command. With both tools, databases can be created; which tool is better for the job is
up to you. Oracle has done a very good job at providing a way to quickly create a database in a short amount of time
using the
oakcli
option. On the other hand, Oracle has also given the DBA a great deal of flexibility when it comes to
creating databases with the configuration assistant.
Deleting a Database
As with creating a database with the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA), a database can be deleted from
the Oracle Database Appliance with the DBCA. Earlier in the chapter, we took a look at the
oakcli
command-line
approach to deleting a database. The
oakcli
approach is much simpler and quicker. However, the DBCA provides the
same functionality. In fact, the DBCA is actually called silently by the
oakcli
command.
When you take a look at Figure
4-2
(earlier in the chapter), you see that there is an option to delete a database.
If you select this option and continue with the wizard, you will be asked what database you would like to remove
(see Figure
4-12
).
