As far as activities go, you can't get bored on Sal. The accent is on water sports; there are
a number of centres and schools, which cover anything from scuba diving, kitesurfing and
snorkelling to windsurfing and sailing. Those include the

Much of the accommodation in Santa Maria consists of large package-tour resorts that
line the beachfront and privately rented apartments.

300m from the beach, Sal's loveliest B&B has stylish rooms that come in different sizes,
pretty colours and with African decor touches. Owned by an Italian-French couple and
run by a pair of live-in Croatians (a yoga teacher and a surfer) who can set up you up with
tours and activities, Sakaroulé is a top choice away from the tourist buzz, with a friendly,
earthy and hip vibe.

The hotel's a little dull but
otherwise these spacious rooms are spick and span, with air-con and balconies (in some).
