In-Depth Information
( 2421446; www.pensao-les-alizes.com ; s/d CVE4950/6600; ) The slightly old-fashioned rooms of
the French-owned Les Alizés, right at the heart of town, are a little noisy but cosy, clean
and equipped with verandahs. There's one pricier room (No 10) with an ocean-view ter-
race. Breakfast is served on the lovely 2nd-floor terrace.
Hotel Morabeza HOTEL $$$
( 2421020; www.hotelmorabeza.com ; s/d from CVE14,445/22,055; ) Fronting a lively patch
of beach, this grande dame of a beach hotel was the very first on the strip. Over 40 years
later, it's still a great choice, with well-appointed rooms facing the beach or the gardens,
several restaurants, two pools and lots of activities.
Eating & Drinking
Cafe Criolo CAPEVERDIAN $
(mains CVE600; 7.30am-10pm Mon-Sat) The least touristy, most downhome place to eat in
town, this low-key eatery with a streetside verandah serves delicious homemade food, like
cachupa (beans and corn mixed with fish or meat; preorder it), fish stews and tuna steaks.
The lunch specials are a steal.
D'Angela SEAFOOD $$
(mains CVE750; 8am-11pm) The oceanfront terrace is the highlight of this simple, always
buzzing restaurant that dishes out reliably good seafood fare. Live music makes it even
livelier on Fridays and Saturday evenings, and at lunchtime on Sundays.
Chez Pastis ITALIAN $$$
( 9843696; mains CVE1150; ) Reserve ahead at this tiny, narrow little restaurant, which
serves top-quality (and priced accordingly) meat and seafood dishes with an Italian twist.
Good vegetarian options, too.
Salbeach Club BAR
( 8am-midnight) Hip beachfront spot with live music on weekends, good-value Sunday
roast dinners, free wi-fi, a big TV screen and a small plunge pool.
Pub Calema PUB
( 5pm-5am) Busy pub on the main strip, with sidewalk tables, nightly happy hour and DJ-
spun tunes nightly from 11pm.
