) If money's not a concern then this is still the best choice in town, if for nothing else
than its superb location in the heart of things. Rooms are plush and stylish, staff helpful,
and the vast and normally empty swimming pool in the back garden is the best place to
forget the chaos outside.

cleverly sheltered from the busy road, the Méditerranée is a perennially popular spot for

(Blvd de la Liberté; mains CFA4000-7000; noon-11pm) Atmospheric and upmarket, the Saga offers
an interesting mix of African dishes with some local classics, such as ndole (sauce made
with bitter leaves similar to spinach and flavoured with smoked fish), plus pizza, Chinese
and pasta dishes. It's nicely decked out, with an open-air area at the front and a cool glass-
fronted dining room behind.
Foyer du Marin EUROPEAN $$
(Rue Gallieni; mains CFA4000-8000; 8am-10pm) It's worth making a diversion for the nightly
poolside grill at this hotel; great kebabs, steaks, chicken, seafood dishes and juicy German
sausage are all well prepared and served up by the friendly staff. This is also a great drink-
ing spot.
