Definitely the best-value accommodation in Douala, the German Seaman's Mission is
a literal oasis of tranquillity in the city centre. It's set in a gorgeous garden with a pool and
terrific views towards the port, the rooms are comfortable and spacious and the restaurant
serves up delicious poolside food all day long. The only complaint is the management's
attitude towards tourists, who are generally made to feel like they're there under suffer-
ance: the wireless password is only given to regular guests and front-desk staff can seem
frosty. Book ahead.

ated and with very friendly staff, the Beausejour was once quite a smart place, as eviden-
ced by its impressive facade and former rooftop pool. It's fallen on less glamorous times,
but the rooms have balconies and are clean and spacious, while downstairs there's wi-fi
and a good on-site restaurant, making it one of Douala's best midrange options.

You can ex-
pect quite a bit of noise at this otherwise excellent-value hotel; as well as the traffic on
Douala's main avenue outside, there's an incredibly loud music shop downstairs blaring
out pop music all day. That said, rooms are clean and comfortable, each coming with
fridge, TV and decent modern bathroom.

Ideally located for the Yaoundé
bus agencies, the Hila sits on a very busy road, so get a room at the back if you can.
Rooms are a decent size and clean, if rather sterile. Many have balconies, all have hot wa-
ter, and there's even a mosque on the 2nd floor.
