20.2/0.8 Norris Campground side road to the east and the Museum of the National
Park Ranger just a mile up the same road. The campground has more than 100 first-come,
first-served sites, flush toilets, and a campfire circle where campers may attend evening ranger
talks. The south end of the Solfatara Trail is in the C loop of the campground.
The ranger museum building has also been a soldier station and later a ranger station. Dis-
plays here relate to park rangers throughout the United States.
20.3/0.7 Gibbon River bridge and a sign about the days when the U.S. Cavalry policed
the park. To the southwest two different Norris Hotels have stood: one built in 1886 that
burned down in 1887, and another that opened in 1901 but was abandoned after 1916, when
stagecoach travel ended in the park.
21.0/0.0 Norris Junction. Norris Geyser Basin is on a short side road to the west (see descrip-
tion beginning on page 230 ) , Madison Junction to the south, Canyon Junction to the east, and
Mammoth Hot Springs Junction to the north.
