In-Depth Information
Three trails begin in or near the Tower Fall campground. Tower Creek Trail, mostly
used for fishing access, begins in the campground and goes almost 3 miles (5 km) up Tower
Creek. The upper part of the trail's route was severely burned in the 1988 fires.
Bicyclists, as well as hikers and cross-country skiers, may use a former road (called the
Old Chittenden Service Road) that goes south from the campground to rejoin the Grand
Loop Road in 2 miles (3 km).
he Roosevelt Lodge Trail goes north from the campground's entrance road, parallels the
main road (above Overhanging Cliff), and ends behind Roosevelt Lodge in a one-way dis-
tance of a little over 3 miles (5 km).
Tower Fall*
Tower Fall is the beautiful and popular 132-foot (40 m) waterfall on Tower Creek.
The Tower Fall area is extremely crowded all day, since it offers a gen-
eral store with ice cream counter, as well as trails to and along the Yellowstone River. Come
very early or late in the day to enjoy relative solitude.
From the parking lot at the store, the easy, paved walkway (about 0.3 mi/0.5km round trip)
takes you out to a platform at the canyon edge, where there's a fine view of Tower Fall and an
interpretive sign about its hanging valley.
Although reconstructed in 1985, the trail down to the base of Tower Fall has been impos-
sible to maintain. There is no view of or access to the bottom of the fall.
