Between the largely hotel-based bars and some rather commercial-feeling pubs and clubs,
George Town doesn't have much of a sophisticated bar scene. That said, there are a few fun
places for a night out.

This is about as close as
George Town comes to a hipster bar - minus the pretension. Canteen has an inviting artsy-
warehouse vibe, there's live music from Thursday to Sunday, and great bar snacks avail-
able every night. Canteen is also accessible via China House's entrance on Lebuh Pantai.

Aleksandar is more than happy to oblige. Food, an eclectic music selection and friendly
regulars make B@92 the kind of bar you wish you could throw in your backpack and carry
with you across Southeast Asia. Ask about the origin of Aleks' skull ring, and you might
just get a discount.
COZY IN THE ROCKET

Named after the owners Hong and
Yen's favourite song, this arty, airy place offers a winning combo of a courtyard garden,
good coffee, refreshing drinks and tasty pasta dishes. It can get very busy at lunch, so don't
come then if you're in a hurry.

Chalk up your misdemeanor and make like one of the 'Usu-
al Suspects' at this superpopular new cafe serving a variety of sandwiches. The homemade
fruity yoghurts in glass jars are also luscious. Plans are in the works for a guesthouse here.
