John F Kennedy International Airport
John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), 15 miles from Midtown in southeastern
Queens, has eight terminals, serves nearly 50 million passengers annually and hosts flights
coming and going from all corners of the globe.
Taxi A yellow taxi from Manhattan to the airport will use the meter. Prices depend on
traffic (often about $60) and it can take 45 to 60 minutes. From JFK, taxis charge a flat rate
of $52 to any destination in Manhattan (not including tolls or tip).
Vans & car service Shared vans cost around $20 to $25 per person, depending on the
destination. If traveling to the airport from NYC, car services have set fares from $45.
Private vehicle If you're driving from the airport, either go around Brooklyn's south tip
via the Belt Parkway to US 278 (the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway or BQE), or via US678
(Van Wyck Expressway) to US 495 (Long Island Expressway or LIE), which heads into
Manhattan via the Queens-Midtown Tunnel.
Express bus The NYC Airporter runs to Grand Central Station, Penn Station or the Port
Authority Bus Terminal from JFK. The one-way fare is $16.
Subway The AirTrain ($5, payable before you exit) links JFK to the subway. Take the
AirTrain to Howard Beach-JFK Airport station for the A line through Brooklyn and into
Manhattan, or opt for Sutphin Blvd-Archer Ave (Jamaica Station) for the E, J or Z line to
Queens and Manhattan.
Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, from where LIRR
trains depart frequently to Penn Station in Manhattan or to Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn.
One-way fares to either Penn Station or Atlantic Terminal cost $7.50 ($9 at peak times).
