26 Death + Co
LOUNGE

'Death & Co' is scrawled in ornate cursive on the ground at Death's door, so to speak - the
only hint that you're in the right place to try some of the most perfectly concocted cocktails
in town. Relax amid dim lighting and thick wooden slatting, and let the bartenders - with
their PhDs in mixology - work their magic as they shake, rattle and roll your blended pois-
on of choice. (

Show up early and snag a seat at this gem, hidden behind a Japanese restaurant on the same
floor. It's quiet and elegant with creative cocktails, but you can't stay if you don't have a
table or a seat at the bar, and they tend to go fast. (

Whitewashed walls, weathered floorboards and salvaged lamps give this urban outpost a
Mississippi flair, which goes just right with the live music on weekdays (bluegrass, jazz,
folk). The drinks, though, are the real draw - in particular the 'I hear banjos', made of
Apple pie moonshine, rye whiskey and applewood smoke, which tastes like a campfire (but
slightly less burning). Decent drink specials and $1 oysters from 5pm to 7pm on weekdays.
