In-Depth Information
Kyrenia scene can't be beaten. Grab one of the quiet and spacious seafront rooms, with
balcony overhanging the waves, to make the most of the experience.
The Colony HOTEL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; % 815 1518; www.thecolonycyprus.com ; Ecevit Caddesi; s/d/ste €110/130/160; paWs )
By far Kyrenia's most luxurious hotel, The Colony's rooms are packed full of plush fab-
rics and nice artwork with lovely touches of old-school style. The downside is you don't
get sea views from the rooms but the rooftop terrace with glamour-puss pool area, and
sweeping panoramas, more than makes up for it.
Rocks Hotel & Casino HOTEL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; % 650 0400; www.rockshotel.com ; Kordon Boyu Caddesi; s/d/ste €145/195/350; paWs )
This hotel-casino giant offers large elegantly styled rooms and a whole bundle of amenit-
ies with gym, spa, Turkish bath and attractive shore-side pool area. Booking a package via
a travel agent will get you a substantial discount on the rack rate.
Around Kyrenia & the Ranges
The coast both west and east of Kyrenia is where you'll find most of North Cyprus' resorts
aimed at package tourists. Bellapais has some excellent alternative places to stay. It's
close enough to Kyrenia to be easily accessible, but far enough (and high enough) away to
feel peacefully distant.
Lapida Garden HOTEL
( % 862 1500; www.lapidahotel.com ; Ibrahim Nidai Caddesi, Lapta; s/d/tr €36/40/56, with sea view s/d €40/48; paWs )
This family-run hotel is set between fields of lemon trees, with a wonderful lush garden
and pool at the back. The bright, clean, spacious rooms are simple but homely with
touches of purple for some extra pizazz. The restaurant - full of ornament clutter and
plants - is very sweet and the meals (set menus 20-25YTL) are great value.
Gardens of Irini B&B
( % 815 2820; www.gardensofirini.com ; Bellapais; r from €40, per week €300)
At the top of Bellapais village, Gardens of Irini has two artfully ramshackle self-catering
cottages with private courtyards surrounded by a verdant garden. Owner Deirdre cooks up
breakfasts (and dinners by request) served amid the leafy surroundings. You must love an-
imals to stay here as the gardens have become a sanctuary for cats and placid stray mutts.
