Budget accommodation is quite poor in Lefkosia. Most of what once existed has either
closed down or been upgraded to a midrange category. Nicosia's top-end hotels include all
the usual suspects, with luxurious comfort and design. But with a couple of exceptions,
there's a lamentable lack of imaginative and original establishments here.
Sky Hotel

The best budget place in Nicosia, Sky is bang in the middle of the historic centre, surroun-
ded by souvenir shops and cafes. Rooms are large, plain and a tad gloomy but the breakfast
buffet is more generous than most and service is always with a smile.
Averof

Close to the historic centre, near the British High Commission and in a quiet residential
part of Nicosia, this place prides itself on its rather kitsch rustic decor and attentive service.
The mock-traditional rooms are spacious, clean and bright. Excellent cut-price deals are
available for longer stays.
Classic Hotel

This hotel, close to Pafos Gate, is a member of the 'Small Luxury Hotels of the World'
group, and you can see why. From the reception to the rooms, everywhere is done up in re-
laxing colours of creams and woods; the design is minimalist and the rooms are smart and
comfortable. The 59 Knives restaurant, part of the hotel, specialises in haute cuisine
,
adding its own contribution to the Classic's luxuries - together with the rooftop gym.
