8 Getting There & Away
AIR
Nicosia's international airport is in the UN buffer zone and is no longer a functioning air-
port. All air passengers for Nicosia arrive at the smart new Larnaka airport in the South.
Most airlines that serve the Republic of Cyprus have offices or representatives in Nicosia.
BUS
Local buses primarily leave from the Urban Bus Station on Plateia Solomou, abutting the
Tripoli Bastion in the Old City.
InterCity Buses ( www.intercity-buses.com ; Plateia Solomou) runs regular buses to the main cities
and resorts, including to the following destinations:
A Agia Napa & Paralimni Six buses daily Monday to Friday and three on Saturday (€5,
one hour).
A Larnaka Twelve buses daily Monday to Friday and six on Saturday (€4, 45 minutes).
A Lemesos Four buses daily Monday to Friday and two on Saturday (€5, one hour).
A Pafos Five buses run daily Monday to Friday and four at weekends (€7, 1¾ hours).
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
Traffic approaching Nicosia tends to come from either the Troödos Mountains to the west
or Larnaka and Lemesos in the South. The Larnaka-Lemesos motorway ends fairly ab-
ruptly on the outskirts of Nicosia, about 6km south of the Old City. By following the ex-
tension of the motorway into the city centre, you will eventually reach Leoforos
Archiepiskopou Makariou III, the main thoroughfare in the New City. Traffic from Troö-
dos will enter the city along Leoforos Georgiou Griva Digeni.
Parking is most easily found at the large car parks abutting the city bastions, to the right
of Leoforos Archiepiskopou Makariou III, or to your left if you approach from Troödos.
The most convenient for new arrivals is the large lot between the D'Avila and Constanza
Bastions on Leoforos Stasinou. Parking for a day should cost no more than €10.
