6 Drinking & Nightlife
From the Famagusta Gate area in the Old City to bars along Leoforos Archiepiskopou
Makariou III, there are plenty of atmospheric and welcoming night-owl places to enjoy a
drink or three.
Old City
You'll find more atmospheric choices within the Old City walls, and a more boho-chic
crowd, than in the more conservative New City.
o Patio Cocktail Bar BAR

Step inside the show-stopping leafy courtyard with its dazzling wall of shutters painted in
primary colours. Inside the main bar, exposed brickwork, chic furnishings and plenty of
glass and light have an equally punchy effect for enjoying that pre (or post) dinner cock-
tail. Great mood music as well.
Oktana BAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Aristidou 6; h 10am-2am; W )
Rub shoulders with artists, actors and academics at this soulful place decorated with edgy
art-deco posters. There's a delightful sunken patio out back under the shade of a massive
fig tree, while the rambling interior encompasses a book shop and various rooms, includ-
ing a basement space favoured by nargileh smokers. There are regular art exhibitions and
poetry readings.
Haratsi CAFE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Lidinis; h 4pm-midnight)
Dating from the 1930s, the joy of this traditional coffee shop is that it is little changed
from those days. There is no chill-out background music, no cutting-edge decor and,
somehow, it's not the sort of place where you feel tempted to whip out your iPad.
Owner Stavros stresses that this is a place where people come to, well, talk as well as
drink coffee, down a beer or shuffle cards. The regulars are far from old fashioned though;
this is one of the coolest cafes in town.
