Near the town bus station, the
Carmencita is run by a delightful couple who pick you up from the ferry terminal at Mar-
ina Grande if you phone ahead with your arrival details. The atmosphere is homey and old
fashioned in the public areas, while the rooms are bright - think floral bedspreads and ma-
jolica ceramic tiling - big and comfortable. Small terraces overlook the pool and pretty
garden.

The peeling facade, handsome columns and giant urns
lend an air of faded elegance to this 19th-century former wealthy private home. A short
uphill walk from the centre of town, the rooms are large and airy with modern furniture
and a floral theme. The best (and most expensive) have good-sized terraces with sea
views.

It's quite a trek to this delightful family-run hotel in Anacapri's origin-
al town centre, but worth the effort. Housed in a discreet whitewashed villa, rooms are
decorated in a sparse, but elegant, Mediterranean style with terracotta tiles and cooling
cream tones, plus the tasteful watercolours of local artist Giovanni Tessitore. It's a very
quiet spot and, except for Sunday-morning church bells, you're unlikely to be disturbed
by anything other than the breeze.
