Housed in the former residence of Russi-
an author Maxim Gorky, this historic hotel oozes old-school charm, with floral tiling, fad-
ing antiques and heavy bedsteads. It also commands some fabulous views over the

On the road up to Villa Jovis - a 10-minute walk
from the centre of Capri Town - Villa Sarah retains a rustic appeal that so many of the is-
land's hotels have long lost. Surrounded by its own fruit-producing gardens and with a
small pool, it has 20 airy rooms, all decorated in classical local style with ceramic tiles
and old-fashioned furniture. The healthy breakfast includes organic produce.

A delightful four-star, this is the top choice in
Marina Grande. The look is classic Capri, with acres of gleaming ceramic in turquoise,
blue and yellow, and stylish furniture. There is a range of rooms (and corresponding
prices); the best have balconies and sea views. There's also a lovely flower-filled 4th-floor
terrace. Minimum two-day stay on weekends and four-day minimum in August.

Like its classy little sister, most of Ischia's hotels close in winter here and prices drop con-
siderably at those that stay open. In addition to the hotels we've listed, there are the spa
hotels, most of which only take half- or full-board bookings. The tourist office can supply
you with a list. The largest island of the trio here, an overnight stay here makes good
sense.
