with garish shops selling local ceramic work, artisanal paper gifts and limoncello . Prices
are set for tourists, so don't expect many bargains.

bashedly tourist-geared, Il Ninfeo has a vast showroom displaying an excellent selection
of ceramics, ranging from giant urns to fridge magnets. If they are not too busy, ask
whether you can see the fascinating remains of a Roman villa under the showroom. It
makes you realise just how much is hidden under this town.

goodies can make excellent gifts. Here, among the hanging hams, you'll find a full selec-
tion, ranging from local cheese and preserves to coffee, chocolate, limoncello and every
imaginable shape of pasta. There's also a collection of fruit-scented soaps and natural
shampoos, perfumes and moisturisers.

to the 12th century, when the first mills were set up to supply the republic's small army of
bureaucrats. Although little is made here now, you can still buy it and the quality is still
good. This attractive shop sells a range of paper products, including beautiful writing pa-
per, leather-bound notebooks and huge photo albums.
