(nativity scene figurine) at age 13. A decade on, the talented
artisan has even exhibited at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Pop into his little
workshop-showroom and you'll probably find him sculpting or painting one of his im-
pressively detailed terracotta saints, angels or 18th-century folkloric characters.

Neighbouring one of
Italy's most esteemed music conservatories, this erudite bookshop fills with the sound of
practising musicians. While most of its new and vintage-edition titles are in Italian, you'll
also find quality original and reproduction Neapolitan prints from the 17th and 18th cen-
turies. Ask to see the collectable postcards from the late 19th and early 20th centuries,
kept behind the counter.

mix it with boho-chic one-offs designed and hand-sewn by Angela and her costume-de-
signer sister-in-law, Antonella. Expect anything from lusciously knitted scarves to ruffled
felt necklaces and bags made from rockabilly beer caps. Even the jewellery pouches are
whipped up using vintage fabric scraps.

Young designer Salvatore Malinconico transforms old threads and vintage fabrics into
edgy, architecturally inspired frocks and jackets. Choose from a small selection of ready-
to-wear creations - think slinky black cocktail dresses pimped with coloured side panels -
or let Salvatore sew-up something fabulous from scratch. A dress can take as little as three
hours to create, but ring ahead for an appointment.
